Certified & Demonstrated Quality
Quality is important in every thing we do, and for everyone we do it for. It is particularly important for space where you literally get one shot and it has to work. It is also vital in the commercial airlines industry where passenger safety is at stake, and for our armed forces who expect and deserve no less than the highest quality and reliability of the systems they use and operate. EMS Defense & Space operates in all of these mission-critical environments, and we do it well.
We also provide systems for today’s advanced requirements for commercial airlines to receive satellite TV and other in-flight telecommunications capabilities, such as internet access. This is done under FAA-certified quality and repair standards.
We have also provided satellite anti-jam systems for the next national security EHF communications system, and have delivered all flight sets after meeting rigorous military space quality standards. Defense & Space received a Gold Supplier rating from Northrop Grumman for our effort.
We have demonstrated our capabilities in many government and prime contractor audits and often have zero non-conformances on the first pass. Through our dedicated team and executive leadership, we ensure quality in all that we do.

Reliability
EMS is driven to run programs and develop products with high reliability. Our reliability engineers work alongside and support our program teams in the design and manufacturing of our products. We perform advanced modeling and reliability analysis to ensure that we identify and mitigate any areas of risk that may impact product operation. We place significant attention on single point failure analysis, accelerated life testing and statistical analysis to ensure our deliverable products meet our customers’ requirements, and we use failure review and corrective action systems (FRACAS) to guarantee that any issues are dealt with promptly and the correct solutions are successfully implemented.
We know our products are often used by troops in harm's way, and it's important to us to keep our servicemen and women safe with reliable communications tools.
Lean & Six Sigma
EMS also excels at lean manufacturing. It starts with industry-standard Design for Six Sigma tools and methods, designing products as a partnership with our customers, and continuing through development stages and into production. We strive for continuous improvement through the use of additional Six Sigma manufacturing tools, including Design and Process FMEAs, Statistical Quality Control, process capability analysis and both internal and customer R&D programs. We assess each step in the process for waste, hidden factories and non-value added steps. Value stream maps are utilized to analyze the flow at a macro level, and Kaizen events drive process improvements in targeted areas. Yields and critical key operations are monitored throughout the manufacturing process to meet the highest standards.
The results have been significant. On several programs, including the Intra-Flight Data Link (IFDL) Switched Beam Antenna for the F-22 program, we have reduced the labor content by as much as 70%.
In other instances we have lead Kaizen events at the next level up in the system, and have reduced parts count, cost and integration times within our customer’s processes.
