Commercial Space

EMS offers expertise in low loss, low and high power beam forming networks and related RF power distribution, switching, combining and control. Our capability spans the receive, IF processing, and transmit elements, and our space solutions assure your satellite system can adapt to the changing world during each satellite's 15+ year life. As communication payloads continue to evolve, EMS provides greater beam protection, control and flexibility to enable adaptable commercial business conflict-responsive systems.

Legacy and current EMS commercial space programs include XMRadio, Sirius Radio and DirecTV broadcast systems,  Iridium, Inmarsat, and Globalstar mobile satellite systems, and Echostar, Viasat and Intelsat.

Fixed Satellite Service

EMS Defense & Space offers several solutions for Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) satellites in geosynchronous orbit including beam forming and switching, and autotrack modulation. These solutions accomplish antenna pointing, TWTA combining, SSPA combining and high-power switching through the use of autotrack modulators, RLNAs, butler matrices and high-frequency switch matrices.

EMS also provides solutions for onboard anti-jam applications.  In the wake of several high profile jamming events, the commercial space systems and their end users, including military users, are increasingly concerned about denial of service due to intentional or unintentional jamming.  EMS leverages military anti-jam technology and heritage to provide a commercial ant-jam service.

Mobile Satellite Service

EMS Defense & Space offers several solutions for Mobile Satellite Service (MSS) satellites in geosynchronous and LEO/MEO orbits including beam forming and switching, and autotrack modulation. These solutions accomplish antenna pointing, TWTA combining, SSPA combining and high-power switching through the use of autotrack modulators, RLNAs, butler matrices and high-frequency switch matrices.

Direct Broadcast Satellite Service

EMS Defense & Space offers several solutions for Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) Service satellites providing television broadcasts and digital radio, including power combining and distribution. Our solutions enable output power handling and high downlink signals for small Earth apertures.

Civil and Science Space

Remote Sensing

EMS Defense & Space offers solutions for remote sensing satellites including transmit and receive duplexing for space radar and calibration switch matrices for radiometers, which are typically used in science missions.

Communications

In the civil and science market, communications satellites and systems provide the mechanism for relaying the important science data back to the scientists. EMS has provided solutions to civil, international and science space communication programs such as NASA’s Tracking and Data Relay Satellite Systems (TDRSS).

Military Communications Satellites

The role of secure and protected military satellite communications to the warfighter is increasing, and as a result bandwidth demand is growing exponentially.  New satellites are being deployed and EMS Defense & Space is on the forefront of this activity, providing key RF beam forming and management solutions. We also offer anti-jam capabilities to sense unwanted signals that initiate jamming.  We provide optimized, advanced and heritage technology, co-engineered with our customers, in a quality space manufacturing facility, and compliant with all government contracting, manufacturing, MIL-SPEC and security requirements. 

With heritage work on key programs such as DSCS and Milstar, today we are under contract for some of the world’s most successful and capable programs including Advanced EHF (AEHF), Wideband Global Systems (WGS), Skynet 5 and others.

Military Navigation Satellites

Space is a critical asset to the warfighter and the economies of nations, and EMS delivers the secure space communication links. Military Weather Satellites

Weather can be an asset or liability to the warfighter.  In either case, the warfighter must know the weather situation. Weather satellites provide key information to the fight and EMS Defense and Space supports military weather satellite solutions including transmit and receive duplexing for space radar and calibration switch matrices.
